reflection

My purpose in my remediation project was to present the ideas in my research paper using a different medium. I think I did a good job of this. I carried over my main points very well. And the power point made it easier to use visual aid for the viewer. My target audience did not change when I changed medium because my topic is specific to my field, education. Since my audience did not change at all, I simply used the same rhetorical situation, design, and language.

The research paper took much more time to write because it was long and content heavy. But the power point did not take nearly as long to physically make since the slides were not required to have many words on them. But the audio portion of the PowerPoint was the difficult part, trying to figure out how to present the information in a timely manner. It took me a decent amount of time and YouTube searching to find out how to voice over a presentation. And it also took several tries to get the equipment working, and to get the entire presentation right. Overall I though the second assignment was easier because I know how to make a PowerPoint and because the information I needed was already presented through my research paper, so I didn’t have to look up much; which was the difficult and time consuming part of the last paper.

assignment 4

The most recent report is different from the research paper because it does not require online research or references.  It is also going to be written in a different format. Instead of researching online I will be interviewing peers and adult figures. I will be making my own data for this paper, as opposed to the last where I only used previously collected data and facts. I did form a new opinion, but it was solely based off of other peoples research. Whereas this paper will be based only on my own research project. Also this paper is much shorter than all of the other papers and the last. Those are the main differences in the two papers.

multi media

I plan on making a power point presentation for my multimodal text. I feel it will be the best and most efficient way to display the information in my piece. I will be using photos on most of the slides, but also I will try to incorporate a few short videos to support my evidence. Only if I can find some good debates on local news stations and such.

Those are the only two forms of media I plan on using for my power point. I feel as if the power point Is the easiest way to portray the mainly cut and dry information I have gathered. It will also provided the viewer/listener visuals to look at while I present my case.

Remediaiton

I am still slightly confused about remediation. From what i can gather it is just the idea of changing one medium into another medium. Like taking a descriptive poem and representing it with a picture instead. dimly changing how the information is displayed.

I think that my paper is a pretty dry topic, considering. The best way to portray it is honestly how it is already portrayed I believe. But another way to display the information could also be through a powerpoint presentation. This could be very useful in getting the point across. I could break up my different sources into individual slides and go over each one, agreeing or disagreeing. Then present my newly informed opinion at the end. Also there would be pictures and such throughout the presentation to attract the viewers attention. That is really the only other way I feel I could represent my paper using a different medium of any kind.

research paper reflection

I wanted my topic to be somewhat about my chosen career, education. And then during class the Ipad example was brought up and I decided to run with it since the school next time mine tried it my senior year. I was very interested in the topic. Most of the revisions I made from the first draft to the final draft were forming better transitions and proper in text citations. I also had to remove some information that was not relevant to the paragraph I placed it in. Then I had to decide if that information could fit somewhere else, or if it was not important enough to stay in the essay.

Once again I faced challenges finding academic sources considering the specific guidelines. In the past my research paper just had to have credible sources, not all academic. I felt like I had to build my opinion around the sources I could find since they had to be academic. It is much easier to support an opinion with articles and such. But in the end I found a way to make it work.

From the process of writing this paper I learned how to make each specific paragraph have a point, and then stick to that point in particular. I also learned how to form an educated opinion based on multiple sources. Another thing I learned was how to respectfully disagree with another opinion without fully discrediting that opinion.

I found the second major assignment much more enjoyable to write than the first, because there was more room for opinion and not just presenting facts. The first major assignment was essentially just an assortment of related facts to prove some kind of point. But the facts did not need explaining or reasoning. They were just simply there. Whereas in the second assignment facts were given, but in turn explained. They were also agreed with or disagreed with, along with reasons by the writer regarding why he or she did or did not agree with the given source. As stated above I found the second assignment much more enjoyable to wirite, and the sources were much more enjoyable to read.
